ENTREAT.
- "Shaded" CD
 |
What
do I have to say here? I really wish there would be more bands like
this in Slovenia. With this album they really did a big step forward.
I don't know, some of you will like it; others will prefer their previous
style. Those who like real metal will love it or maybe dislike it
cause they don't have long hair. When I got this CD my first impression
was like ''oh fuck, what the hell is this?'' I really expected something
more heavier. I need a while till this masterpiece rose to my heart.
Suddenly everything was clear - this is a great release. I really
love this easy emo parts and than heavy metal destruction. But it's
not as simple - besides Swedish melodic metal there are also rock'n'roll
influences and sometimes their music mirroring with some hellish German
bands. The vocal is desperately screaming, sung clean and there is
a lot of talking parts. In each view it sounds perfect. I like every
single song, ok, except maybe the firs part of the song called ''Starec''
which is in a Slovenian language, by the way. In this song Patrik
(their singer) sing like Magnifico (Slovenian pop star), this is what
bothers me or maybe it's a melody? I don't know. The lyrics are original
and expansive. There is lots of metaphor and each song is like story
you once experienced in your life. It makes you think and leaves you
full of questions and that's all the charm.

ATTIEKSME - "Katram no mums'' CD
 |
First
release by this young Latvian band. They bringing us 7 old school
sounding tracks covered with social political thematic such as capitalism,
multinationals, animal/human rights, but mostly problems happening
around them. Most of the songs are sung in their native language and
I really respect that. At least, now I know how Latvian language sounds
like! The music is typical and simple punk/hardcore, which don't really
drag my attention. Not good, but not bad either. Thing that disturbs
me the most here is their vocalist yelling which is a little disfigured
and reminds me on NYHC bands. But that's just me!

MAN VS HUMANITY/ BURY ME STANDING - ''Grash & Burn'' split 7''
 |
I'm
so happy I bought this split because it really embellished my day.
Both bands rule! On side A we have Man vs. Humanity, which I like
already from before. They start with a little bit different song like
we would expect. It's a hip-hop song like we knew know from Beastie
Boys, but with harsh vocals in the background. The song is really
refreshing and I love it. Great bass lines - I could listen to this
song whole day. The second song is in their traditional style. Noise,
chaos and distraction. The song is really unclear because of the bad
production, but I still like it! I can't wait to see them in Ieper
this summer! On the second side we have Bury me Standing who come
from usa. They are good, too - actually pretty similar to their partners.
This band reminds me on some older American political bands like Ebullition
records artists. Two very diverse songs with harsh screaming vocals.
Both bands cover social-critical lyrics!

NEWBORN - ''In these desperate days…we still strive for freedom'' 7''
 |
You
can't even imagine how good this is…it's a nice example of what I
called perfect release, and I'm not talking just about music here!
These Hungarian guys musically and lyrically hit into the middle of
my heart. It's some kind of fast music mixture of new school, old
school and emocore with non-stop brilliant melodies and screaming
vocal, which from time to time become melodic sung. The music is mainly
melodic and it has very completion technical riffs. Everything is
on the right place! I could place this somewhere between Shai Hulud
and Stretch Arm Strong, but I believe this is much better and of course
faster! The lyrics part is great too and even it's not hard to understand
them they added also explanations. The first song titled ''Difficulties
of crossing a border'' dealing with alienation caused by borders and
I can imagine why they are so pissed on their national customs because
I experienced that when I was returning from Hungary. The rest of
the songs talk about the stupid separation of the hardcore scene,
creating your own life and the last song ''all roads lead to Rome''
should be the hardcore hymn. Four beautiful songs we became addicted
with. I want more!

UPHEAVAL - ''Testimony to the atrocities'' CD
 |
The
apocalypse is coming and with purchasing of this CD you can taste
that ahead of time! Upheaval used to be known as a notorious vegan
sxe band, but with time and with some changes in band they become
a pure death metal band. At the moment I can't remember any metal
band I could compare them with, but they remind me on Creation is
Crucifixion, which are on the same label by the way. The music is
a little simpler as C.I.C. but it's faster and there are more mosh
parts. I think this is a fucking evil music with blood hellish vocal
and riffs that come right from the hell. (Don't get me wrong, this
is just a metaphor - I do not believe in such things!!) Here are some
titles of the songs so you can imagine what they are all about: "Laments
of the fallen Angels'', "Abomination of the desolate", "Through
the darkest days of tribulation", "In the shrouds of darkness",
"Mourning of sickness", "Into the gates of eternal
suffering", and so on. Lyrics with a lot of pain, blood and brutality
similar to the death metal bands lyrics. I hope it's just a metaphor.

ECLIPSE - ''The Jehovah congress'' 10''
 |
After
a long break and some band changes they came out with this great release.
I remember how much I was into their 7'' some years ago. The 7'' was
incredible and so is this. New songs are a little bit faster with
some more punk rhythms, but still remain also some slower and chaotic
elements. This is Swedish way of hardcore. One piece of agitated music
with distorted screaming vocals and mysterious melodies. If I look
back what I just wrote I could say this is actually pretty the same
like their 7''. Especially I have to praise the beginning and the
end of the album because it's done really perfectly. The lyrics are
quite complicated and I'm not able to grasp all the messages behind.
I could say they are personal. I like the ''Jehovah congress'' text.

YAGE - ''3-17 October 1984'' Tape
 |
This
tape impresses me! I love it! The tape version of this album was released
on Croatian label Get off records and I think this is great idea because
this way they added also lyrics translated in Croatian language. Yage
is a German band, which plays some kind of emo core, which varied
between screaming and chaos and on the other hand beautiful singing
and melodic melodies. Very pleasant driving rhythms and melodies,
which easily sink under your skin. I think this tape is made for car
listening. Interesting personal lyrics!

MALAKHAI/ SHANARA - split CD
 |
I
never heard of any these two bands before so I suppose I'm dealing
with two young bands. Malakhai are from USA and Shanara from Germany.
Each band offering us three songs, but let's go from the start. The
first bend is Malakhai, who are doing screamy, chaotic metal hardcore
in a complicated way. I think their music is somewhere between Morning
Again and Shogun. Personal lyrics, which don't really mean that much
to me. Next are Shanara and they convinced me a little bit more that
Malakhai. Sounds like nice emo-metal with screaming vocals and mysterious
guitar melodies. I can notice Morning Again influences also here.
I'm sure this band will become well known in the future. Lyrics are
dealing with social problems.

MORNING BEFORE - ''The new romantics'' MCD
 |
I
have to say that this nice CD embellished me a day. Seriously! I got
a feeling that I'm not writing all this reviews just for myself, but
there are some persons actually noticed and reading my reviews. Thank
you Matthias for being a first person that gave me something to review!
Ok. Let's change the theme now. It's hard to believe Morning Before
are coming from Germany cause most of the bands I know from over there
sounds much, much…. different. This is much more softer, much more
reassuring music. It is a perfect music for cold morning, when you
are drinking a cup of tea, clearing up your mind and watching the
sunrise. Really tender emo rock which from time to time leaps also
in some more punky rhythms, but no screaming this time - just beautiful
female singing. I can't say this is something original, but it's certainly
well done. The lyrics are personal and written in a pretty simple
style. For all of you who know how to enjoy winter mornings!

THE BLACK HAND - ''Pulling your strings'' 10''
 |
This
is one of the beast releases coming in my property these days. The
Black Hand are from Canada and I heard there are some ex members of
Ire guilty for this excellent release. Their music at some point actually
reminds me on Ire, but it's a little more fluent - like His Hero is
Gone for example. Powerful, diverse and pretty original music. Extra
bonus goes to their vocalist who has an awesome vocal - fucking evil!
I really can't find anything bad about this release. Layout is great,
lyrics are great, and music is great! My favourite song is ''StraightShooter''
which nicely explain to us why police control is a total waste. This
release rules!
