ORCHID
- ''Dance tonight! Revolution tomorrow!'' 10''
 |
''Dance
tonight! Revolution tomorrow!'' They couldn't pick up a better title.
I never heard any of their previous releases but this release totally
took me over. Amazing alloy of passionate music and emotional lyrics
or vice versa. A while ago it was popular to label bands as emo-violence.
This could be it. Incessantly alternation of rhythms and guitar melodies,
which remain in your ears for a long time. Nimble and wild drums beats,
which made this music to blow you away. High pitched screaming vocals
that couldn't be better. Pure screaming right from the heart. This
vocal reminds me a little on a Daemon's Jaded Passion singer's voice.
The lyrics are mainly personal. Most of them are hard to understand…short
explanations of the lyrics would be a great idea! This is a perfect
release for the revolution summer!

HIS HERO IS GONE - ''The plot sickens: enslavement redefined'' LP
 |
I'm
a big His Hero is Gone fan from the first start, but I have a feeling
their previous release convinced me a little bit more like this one.
The music became faster and those dark and scary parts are missing
that I used to love so much. Don't get me wrong this is still good;
I'm just trying to say I prefer their previous stuff. Another bad
thing about this release is its length. These 11 songs roll around
in no time! Lyrics are staying in their traditional style. Critical
& political as fuck…attacking everything in turn. Unfortunately
His Hero is Gone called it quit after releasing this album. I heard
that was because of the popularity they gathered in a past few years.
But they didn't surrendered yet, as I heard they already have new
bands. One of them is Tragedy and another is called Severed Head of
State.

DRIFTNET - ''A sample of no commercial value'' LP
 |
I
had a chance seeing these guys playing when I was on tour with my
band. They didn't really remaind in my eyes as a energetic live band
like you would expect while you are listening to this release. Where
are all the jumps dudes? Anyway, this piece of plastic is filled with
good sounding hardcore music. Good riffing old school with plenty
of guitar melodies and sing-a-longs. I remember their 7'' titled ''Friendship''
from a couple of years ago. It was one of the best 7'' I had in my
old school collection. They stick in the same style. Fast and melodic.
The lyrics are positively positive, dealing with a little bit exhausted
old school thematic. I think they should widen their lyrics on more
diversified topics since there are so many things to talk about. Otherwise
this is a fine release and it will join my old school collection.

HIGHSCORE - ''New fuel'' LP
 |
Remember
old school sk8 videos from the gold times and a cool old school music
in the background? Music, which stayed in your head and gave you courage
and strength while you were skating with your huge old school skate
deck. Highscore awakened me up those memories. Especially the slow
dance parts and the beginning of the B-side are totally in the same
vein. Awesome! Otherwise the music is pretty much in the same style
as their 7'', except the lyrics, which are still fucking positive
but a little better written. Lyrics dealing with media, religion,
capitalism, racism/nationalism, ignorance in hc scene, meaning of
hardcore… I like this band!

ABSIDIA - ''Written in minor key'' MCD
 |
Finally
a black metal influenced hardcore band that covers more or less political
lyrics. I really start to dislike all of these demons, angels and
similar bible characters so often encountering in the texts of similar
sounding bands. I have a much better feeling listening to this young
German band. The layout is not really in my taste and the production
sound could be better but everything else about this release makes
my lips smiling. The music is mainly mid tempo and it's filled with
good sounding sad guitar melodies, some mosh parts from time to time
and desperate poisonous screaming. Melodic and powerful! Sometimes
Undying and Morning Again came on my mind. The lyrics are easy to
understand and some of them are really poetic. Otherwise the lyrics
are dealing with the crime during the second world war, media, destroying/pollution
of the world, and other tragedies caused by the human ignorance. I'm
really looking forward seeing this band live!

NIKAD - ''s/t'' MCD
 |
Nikad
is a new Croatian band formed by ex Clean. Before I heard them I was
asking around how they sound like. I always got an answer: ''Old ebullition
style''. Well, I'm not that much informed about old Ebullition bands
but probably this is it. Music is chaotic, dynamic, melodic and mainly
played mid tempo. With other words nimble drums rhythms, chaotic guitar
melodies, nice bass lines and vocals which are what else than screaming.
Mmmm…I'm hearing a Fingerprint part here in a second song called ''wake
you''. Taciturn emotional lyrics dealing with freedom, better life
and about listening to your inside. One piece of beautiful emotional
music. I'm sure this would get a better mark if there would be some
more than just three songs.

CALIBAN - ''Vent'' CD
 |
Another
full length by these German mosh killers. Like usually the CD is equipped
with a nice looking layout and well done booklet. Hey wait! Didn't
I already saw this photo below the CD? So, how the ''Vent'' sounds
like? There is not much difference between their previous full length
''A small boy and a grey heaven''. Still remain fast rhythms, slow
double bass mosh parts, slayer riffs, good distorted screaming vocals
and nice done emo parts. They actually add some new elements like
drum'n'bass and female voice but this doesn't really make a difference
here. My favourite songs here are ''Love taken away'' and ''Sycamore
dreams''. Otherwise I like also female singing in ''about time and
decisions'', which sound just perfect. So music is maybe nothing new
but there is some progress in the lyrics part which are what else
than personal. Sad texts about lost love affairs, happiness, loneliness,
life, death, war…lots of pessimism present.

NOTICE - ''One name for multiple diseases'' CD
 |
Emotional
music from the States. 12 songs of fine energetic and melodic emocore
with some punkrock influences. Sometimes slow and softly, sometimes
driving and powerful. I really like their singers beautiful vocal
and bass melodies which makes this release attractive to me. Sometimes
reminds me on Swedish bands. At the first few songs this release really
satisfying me but than in the second part it is all slowly lost somewhere.
But that's probably just because of the 12 songs which are not really
short and all together least almost an hour. If this was a MCD I'm
sure I would have a better opinion about it. Lyrics are deep and personal
and they are full of tossing thoughts. Quite interesting actually.

CHANGE - ''Wake. Sleep. Volume'' CD

Writing
a review for this record wasn't really a piece of cake. Sometimes
it can be really annoying when you are listening to a certain release
and there is a similar sounding band you know but you can't remember
the name of… It could be At the Drive-in but I'm still just surmising.
The problem is that I was never into that kind of music style. Anyway,
this is still a decent emocore release. They are giving us 12 really
diverse songs… some of them are chaotic and screaming, some sounds
like these days popular ''emo'' bands with beautiful singing vocal
and cool guitar melodies and there are also some punkrock songs. Of
course, driving rhythms are dominating! Lyrics dealing with political,
personal and everyday life problems. ''Graduation day'' kick ass!

CROWLEY'S
PASSION - ''Chapter one'' MCD
 |
Chapter
one begins with a sample so typical for today's mosh metal bands and
than boom…Caliban rip off!!! Is this a coincidence or what? Their
first song starts very similar or I should say exactly like the first
song on Caliban ''A small boy and a grey heaven'' album. After that
music goes more into Heaven Shall Burn ''In battle there is no law''
style with a little taste of Arkangel. I'm sure they borrowed some
elements from these bands but somehow their music sounds much more
evil than all before mentioned bands. It's a perfect background for
bloodthirsty kick boxers. Well, I hope they hate violence just as
much as I do!? Also the lyrics part reminds me on Caliban type of
lyrics, except these ones are a little bit worse written.
