LOCKJAW
- ''Hometown'' MCD
 |
I'm
not really well informed about this German label called Scene Police,
but it looks like they're releasing lot's of calm sounding emo-core.
Lockjaw is one of them. Beautiful music for young lovers. Sometimes
they remind me on At the drive in. I don't have idea what they were
thinking about when this lyrics were written...I hope this are not
just empty words.

SPIRIT
84 - ''When the first leaves fall'' 7''
 |
I
thought this is better. I mean, it's not that bad but I heard one
of their songs quite some time ago and it was great. Awesome, beautiful
guitar riffs, cool vocals, melodies... Here I can say the same just
for the song ''For those with a heart'' which it seems to be the only
new song besides ''Twenty eyes'' which sucks buy the way. The rest
songs are taken from 98' and sounds pretty much the same like Mainstrike
old 7''. Musically and lyrically I prefer a song called ''For those
with a heart''! Did I mention that Spirit 84 is an old school band
from Netherlands?

KILLSWITCHENGAGE
- ''s/t'' CD
 |
I
heard many people praise this album but unfortunately I don't feel
the same. There are some good songs I can't contradict that and there
are also some very great parts but otherwise, for me this is just
an average release. Killswitchengage is one of those metal sounding
bands with lots of guitar and double bass in the foreground... like
we find in Overcast, Shadows Fall. Vocal is changing from bloody sick
screaming to beautiful singing and than again to harsh screaming,
which can be a little disturbing from time to time. I'm little confused
when I'm reading these lyrics. Some of them are good - dealing with
equality, individuality and also speak about our dying earth and contradict
to the system we are forced to live in. But that there are also some
lyrics which work on me as a religious. I don't know. Maybe I got
them wrong, but here in thanks list they all thanked to the god…except
their bass player Mike (former member of Overcast).

TORN
APART - ''Ten songs for the bleeding hearts'' CD
 |
Ten
songs for the kids in love. I'm not really sure if this is the right
music for someone who is in love, for someone who is in puberty or
for someone who just broke up with his/her girlfriend/boyfriend…I
think not, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, Torn Apart play chaotic
new school HC which from time to time sounds really fucked up. Vocal
part sounds like any band on Ferret records (they remind me on For
the love of a lot). The first few songs are pretty interesting but
than all together slowly sinks down. The same means for the lyrics,
which the first few are very cool, but than all become pretty monotonous.
One song is titled ''Every girl has a boyfriend…is your in Torn Apart''.
I guess I'm not really a guy to laugh that kind of jokes. And it really
gets on my nerves all this Torn Apart poses and photos. But this is
Rock'n'Roll right?

MAHARAHJ
- ''Chapter one: The descent'' CD
 |
What
can you expect when you get a release of Canadian band? What else
than crazy straight up metal done in the original way. Even Maharahj
couldn't escape from this traditional Canadian brutal sound. This
is very crazy album with lots of screaming and demolish guitar tunes.
Stop and go...chaos and destruction. There is some Creation is crucifixion
and the Dillinger escape plan influences and you can also easily come
across to some Day of suffering tunes. With this release they managed
to done eleven songs, which are filled with energy from start to the
end. Even my heart starts biting faster when I put this piece of plastic
into my CD-player. I totally dig this. They lyrics have a very dark
view on the world, which are not really positive, but they are also
dealing with topics such as gay-rights, individualism,...

DEADSTYLER
- "...sie ist suf, doch bitter ist ihr nachgeschmack..." MCD
 |
Let
me start with the layout that looks fantastic. No doubt the best lay-out
I saw in a while. You really got the impression this is going to be
the metallic thing. Deadstyler seems to be a young German band that
plays pretty chaotic and metallic hc. Besides screaming there are
also some more punk and rock'n'roll tunes and even some melodic parts.
The songs are quite diverse but unfortunately don't drag my attention.
Pretty good emotional/political lyrics.

CLEAN
- "xxx" cass
 |
This
tape came out in the time when this sincere Croatian band broke up.
I feel very sorry about that, I still think Clean were one of the
better Croatian bands. OK. Maybe their previous MCD wasn't so good,
but new songs you can find on this tape are great. It's an emocore
where tender and sad guitar melodies same to its impression, it's
a music that makes you think about the days you are missing so much
and it's music which makes you yell at the top of your voice. Vocal
is mainly screaming but also melodic singing and talking is not missing.
I don't know, when I'm listening to this some Swedish bands come on
my mind first. They have great lyrics dealing with emotional and social-political
thematic. The song titled "The art of...'' is probably one of
the best sxe lyric I ever read!

COSTA'S
CAKE HOUSE - ''s/t'' MCD
 |
Costa's
cake house...that is a pretty strange name if you ask me. On first
sight a typical German brutality in the vain of Morser, Systral, The
Circle of dead children...but when you take a little more time you
realize this is not really that heavy like you though. Ok, maybe some
of the song sound like the bands mentioned above, but that's just
because of the German sound, otherwise this sounds pretty different.
Music is pretty psychedelic and it has lots of harmonic parts, some
parts sounds even nimble and funny, but mostly prevail apocalyptic
riffs. Bass guitar is in the foreground...of course, they have two
bass players! I really like their lyrics part in which the shows their
criticism towards society.

SECRETOS
DEL CORAZON - ''Des fois il faut que j'y pense...'' MCD
 |
If
I'm not mistaken this is a half French half German project with members
of Costa's cake house. In contrast with them, this is far away from
brutality. It's a beautiful music which sound somewhere between French
emocore and Swedish new school. Tender guitar melodies and skilled
bass lines, plus screaming and melodic vocals make this really good
sounding piece of music. Sometimes Clean come on my mind. Lyrics are
emotional and they are written and sing in English, French and German
language. Not bad at all!

6th
AVENUE - ''...hope is the last to die'' CD
 |
It's
kind of hard for me to write a review for this release, which was
a dust collector in my bedroom for a while. I don't know why I was
avoiding this and didn't take attention to review this CD for so long.
Probably because I'm getting so many great releases lately. Ok, but
let's talk about 6th Avenue now. Pretty unknown (at least in Slovenia)
German band witch sounds like melodic emocore with a very little metal
touch. Mainly mid-tempo rhythm with melodies in the background. The
music is not so bad, but what makes this boring is a vocal part where
the singer chooses between sung and screaming vocal. The sung vocal
is really unattractive if you ask me. Lyrics are personal and written
in a very simple way, which means you don't have to be an expert to
understand them - and after all there are also a short explanations
of some songs.
