CAVE
IN - ''Jupiter'' CD
 |
This
is probably a disappointment for metal kids but a great surprise for
emo kids. I don't really care! I was shocked too - even that I expected
something in this vein! With their first song I got the impression
that I did a big mistake when I bought this CD. It sucked! But when
I took some time and start to listen it, it turned out that this is
not so bad after all. It's something totally different - something
new! From all this weird riffs Cave in can do something totally beautiful.
Amazing! I could label their style something like ''space-emo-rock''.
Songs are about 5 or 6 min. long but they are full of nice melodies
so you cant be bored. Especially when you're writing your homework
or when you're just lying on your bed with your mind somewhere else,
this music totally fits. I'm totally confused about the lyrics. I
hate this handwriting style!!! It's so difficult for me to find out
what's written here and if I succeed with identification then I soon
stop on another obstacle - I don't have a clue what they are talking
about. This album can't compete with their masterpiece ''Beyond hypothermia''
but it's for sure better than their other albums!

DISEMBODIED
- ''Heretic'' CD
 |
This
album is out quite some time now, but it still seems that nobody has
it! That's kind of strange because I'm sure they gained quite many
fans around the globe in all these years. I don't know! These are
the last songs they did before they broke up. It's hard to say that
this is their best material because their music really didn't experienced
much changes through their existence but I'm sure they put on this
CD some of the best shit they have put together. The music is still
in their traditional style - slow, heavy and destroying metal/hc with
lot's of anger. The guitars are low tuned for a few tunes down so
you can guess that there is not some special melodies but just distorted
riffs. It's interesting that Disembodied not even once did any fast
part in their songs. Everything is extremely slow or mid tempo. The
vocal part on this album is a little more rough and heavier but it
still kick ass. Their lyrics seems to me very depressive, and also
negative at some points, but some of them are also atheistic which
is certainly a good thing. But still, this lyrics seems very unattractive
to me. Maybe that's also because of their ugly styled handwriting
which caused me some problems with identification.

CALIBAN/
HEAVEN SHALL BURN - ''The split program'' split CD
 |
I'm
sure that this is at the moment one of the most searching album in
Europe and I think I don't have to explain why. In other words I'm
talking about two bands that reached lots of hearts in a really short
time. Even mine! CD starts with Caliban, which continue from where
they stopped with their full length album "A small boy and a grey
heaven". Music is still rushing, full of hits and mosh parts. There
is not really any progress in their music, but lyrically they reach
the next stage - they went into more emotional waters! The second
band are Heaven shall burn which are total blast! These songs are
even better than the songs on their full length album "Asunder''!!
They totally blowed me off this time! Lyrics speaks about pollution
of the environment, resistance against gods and masters and in the
song "The seventh cross'' they associating on idea that we will be
free only after our death. Pessimistic guys. Both bands also did a
cover song of each other.

MERIDIAN
- ''Daydream in the postdementia millenium'' MCD
 |
Ooo...hoo...hoo...
I think it would be stupid if I said that we can find some hardcore
tunes in this music. This is pure metal with no doubt! Ok. Their lyrics
are not in the same vein like that kind of bands have (some lyrics
are hc and some could be hc?), but the music…wow. It's kind of hard
for me to compare them with any band since I never was into this black
metal thing. The music is not as fast as for example The year of our
lord but it is in more slower way. There is also lots of double bass
and keyboard parts like we are used to in black metal bands, vocal
is screaming and music from time to time meets melodiousness, but
there is not some exaggerated riffs really. All together sounds quite
technical but not too much. I noticed that they have just one guitar
player and the same guy is also doing bass parts...heh, this seems
quite funny to me. Anyway, I recommend this to all you black heart
kids, because this is really good!

ENFOLD
- "No coming home'' LP
 |
Before
I got this release I saw Enfold playing live and it really didn't
seem nothing special to me. I could say that my expectations were
a little too high. Unfortunately I had the same opinion about that
LP too, even if I hadn't gave it that much attention at the start.
And than one day when I was bored I put this shit on my gramophone
and start to listen carefully... and again... and again... and I
came to the conclusion that I had totally wrong view on this LP.
Fuck! This is actually very good! Well, I wouldn't say that Enfold
are the most original German musicians, but what they do sounds
just great. If anyone asked me how German emo core sounds like,
exactly this sound would come on my mind first... rough screaming
vocal, chaotic but beautiful melodies which can every second turn
in totally different thing, there are some metal touches but not
enough to label them metal core! Music is mainly mid tempo but there
are also some fast and slow parts - but everything fit together
just perfectly! In any case not boring for the listener! Very well
written lyrics with socially political and emotional themes. Some
of the songs also have an explanation!

ENTREAT.
- ''s/t'' 7''
 |
This
7'' should be out quite some time ago, but because of some problems
with pressing everything took a little bit longer, so I almost forget
about this long expected 7''. In spite of all that, this two songs
which we find on this 7'' are still refreshing. The sound is a little
better than the one on City of... CD where Entreat. appeared with
four songs. They still proceed with their sad emo-metal music and
melancholic lyrics in all beauty. Music is mainly played in mid tempo
style, there is really lots of cool melodies, some acoustic parts,
some double bass and desperately screaming vocal which from time to
time turns also in beautiful singing. The lyrics are emotional and
I really like the way they intensify. I wish I could say this is the
best Slovenian HC release but I can't, because of the fact that I
hate two songs long 7 inches. But still... yeah, it's best!

HEAVEN
SHALL BURN - ''Asunder'' CD
 |
This
is a bomb!!!! Nine destructive songs by this German killing machine
plus two cover songs by Lair and Bolt Thrower. Yeah, this guys really
are a Bolt Thrower fans and it's not hard to notice that. Double bass
is crushing all the time with almost no brakes, strong metal riffs
which sometimes change into more melodic parts and all together increase
into black metal, awesome screaming and gruff vocal, and tons of great
breakdowns and mosh parts. I could say this is death metal. Their
lyrics are dark and some of them are pessimistic, but they also give
us ideas such as individualism, atheism, never give up, etc... pretty
cool lyrics actually, but I think they shouldn't use so much the same
words in their lyrics. This is it. Great stuff which comes in a very
good looking digi-pack!

I
- ''One word'' MCD
 |
This
band kind of confused me in the start. I first thought this is a band
called One Word and that I somehow found out that this is just their
title. Their real name is I. Well, until I didn't read their cool
emotional lyrics in which they are telling us that we have to find
our self/way, I didn't really like their music that much. They play
this kind of old school hardcore in which we can find also some new
school influences. And don't think of metal reefs here! The whole
thing really reminds me on Strife. But after I read their lyrics I
started to like this band more and more. It's so cool to listening
an old school band with a good lyrics - especially if they deal more
with emotional contents. That's really unusual for old school band!
And I must not forget to mention also their explanations for each
song and their long speech which you can listen at the end of the
tracks. I got really good impression after this speech! We need more
bands like this!!!

EWING - ''Calling in dead'' CD
 |
I
heard that these kids from Norway are famous by their crazy live shows
and I can totally imagine that. All bands with this kind of music
style are crazy live! Just think about Refused, Chispa, With Love
or Locust. There is so much hits in their songs that you can't stay
calm. And I can also imagine that it is much more fun listening to
this band live than listening it at home because I'm fuckin bored
here. This is certainly not a music to listen at home. At least not
for me! This sounds like if Refused would play more San Diego style
hardcore. Fast to mid tempo music, crazy screaming vocal, some rock'n'roll
dance parts and similar elements... you know the deal. Some songs
are actually quite good, but I'm still not enjoying when I listen
to this record. Their lyrics are very wierd and I can't really figure
out what are they talking about. In the first song they kind of hint
us with the sentence like ''I got to be me everyone else was already
taken eleven reasons why I got to be me'' but I still can't get nothing
reflecting with this thought in their next eleven songs. Wierd....

TIME
IN MALTA - "Construct and demolish" MCD
 |
I
really didn't like this CD when I got it. I don't know why. Maybe
my expectations were too height. Well, I gave it a try and in a few
listening I figured out that this is not bad at all! I would label
this band as emo-metal. Each track is very well structured - technically
with plenty of beautiful melodies which are intensifying into more
heavy sounding metallic hits. The vocal is sometimes screaming, sometimes
sung. They are pretty humbly in their lyrics where they wrote just
a few lines but enough to get the point. Pretty smart lyrics actually!
Whole lay-out and also the band name gave me a picture like there
is hiding a CD with songs taken from some action film. I'm sure it
would be a pleasure watching a movie with music like this in the background.
