DEADLOCK - ''I'll wake you, when spring awakes'' MCD

MUSIC: LYRICS:

When I first saw lay-out of this digipack CD I was totally entraced and of course I couldn't leave without bought it. It's amazing how much can lay-out like this one influence on some people. Well, Deadlock seems to be a new band from Germany coming out on a label that I never herd of it before. They play pretty fast technical metallic hc ala Morning again or Arkangel. Music is in my opinion very psychodelical and chaotic and it's not a good thing to listen if you have a headache. I don't know where this guys so hurry? All this crazy riffs would sound much better if they would have played just a little more slowlier. Their lyrics are pretty cool - mysterious, emotional and dark.

CHISPA - ''Obstinator'' 7''

MUSIC: LYRICS:
This 7'' gives you a few minutes of totally insane craziness. But you have to see this kids playing live. I must say they are the most crazy live band I have even saw. Really awesome! Their music is some kind of mixture between German emocore and San Diego style hardcore. It's pretty cool actually because I like this much more than any other San Diego styled band. There is a lot of hard hits and plenty of super fast and messy riffs in every song and than of a sudden they come out with a cool beautiful ''emocore'' part. Really diverse and original stuff! Lyrics are something special too. They fit perfectly with their music! Short, political and written in a kind of strange way. I'm wondering if they stole title of the song ''Iskra'' from Slovenian dictionary?

RED SKY - ''mpfw'' CD

MUSIC: LYRICS:
This is second full-length by this American metal/hc band. In the most parts are second albums more mature and especially better than the first one. This release is no exception. The music is faster, more metal and even more brutal... fuck there is almost no easy riffs! Otherwise, like I wasn't listening to their first album I'm not listening to this one that often. I Don't know - they have this style of playing which is not really my thing. I'm pointing at guitar riffs here! But on the other side this is probably the main key for the scary atmosphere in their music. Their lyrisc either don't seem nothing special to me. Ow yeah...and I have to mention that they have two singers - one is screaming and the other has this low vocal, like we meet in German bands. Well, this is their best stuff, but still not that good to drag my attention!

TO DIE FOR/ ENGRAVE - ''All the passion to keep you moving'' 10''

MUSIC: LYRICS:
MUSIC: LYRICS:
I think this two young European bands To die for from Italy and Engrave from Germany are great couple for sharing this album. Both bands play metallic new school HC and both bands have great, smart and educational lyrics! For example Engrave lyrics talks about media, capitalism and consecutions of both, love as a sense of life and ideas like try to find yourself. There are also explanations for every song, which are of course extra points for this band. Great live band! To die for are not as fast as Engrave but they have more break downs and distorted parts. Their lyrics are very good written but it's kind of hard for me to define them on the appointed subjects, so it would be a good think if they would have wrote explanations as their dudes did. I like this record!

SHORA - ''Shaping the random'' MCD

MUSIC: LYRICS:
I foreseeing this is pretty young band coming from Switzerland to level everything with the ground. Very heavy, aggressive, chaotic and noisy HC with high doze of metal + some grind outbursts. If you put together Coalesce, Acme and Soar you get something reflecting with Shora sound. Lyrics are short and pretty hard to understand. Emotional thing! Heavy, heavy, heavy...

FRAGMENT - ''Answers'' MCD

MUSIC: LYRICS:
This it second CD by this American metallic oriented HC band. I must say that I expected much more than this album can give me. Musically it's somewhere between Overcast and Fault. Especially their grove monstrous singer voice reminds me on Fault. And since this two bands are both average to me, also Fragment can't escape. Otherwise they have some really good technically metallic peaces, some acoustic parts and sometimes good singing parts. But there are lots of things that could be done better. They have also a musical song with violin and piano which reminds me on Richard Clyderman. Themes in lyrics are pretty monotonous and I think I had met that kind of lyrics in old school bands - distrust, lost friendship and stuff. But if you look at the bright side this lyrics probably give you more than all this evil style lyrics so often encountered these days by metal/HC bands. Nice packaging!

WALLS OF JERICHO - ''The bound feed the gagged'' CD

MUSIC: LYRICS:
First I have to mention extremely beautiful lay-out, but you are probably more interested in anything else except this so let's go on. The music is fast, intense, metallic, new schoolish HC. Music is actually nothing special, except the enraged and screamed female vocals which totally kick ass! I'm sure I would love this CD if I had it about 2 years ago, but now hmm... As I said - nothing special. But there are also lyrics which are the best thing here. There is a lot of anger and blood in this lyrics which are mainly emotional but they also deal with issues like equality, disappointments in life, anti-sexism...

UNDYING - ''This day all gods die'' MCD

MUSIC: LYRICS:
Somewhere I caught the information that there are some ex-members of Catharsis in this band! Well, musically it doesn't fit with any song Catharsis ever did or maybe just a little with their first full-length. I dont know? This is almost pure metal! Technical and complicate guitar ruffs, double bass, hellish vocal, black metal pieces and lots of other metal tricks. Some parts reminds me on Day of suffering, but still much more complicated. Although there is a text in the booklet which try to explain us what kind of gods they are talking about, their lyrics still seems very atheistic to me. Well, they are not singing about gods we found in Bible, but they using this gods as a symbol to beliefs and traditions. Very dark writing style and pretty similar themes in all lyrics! But anyway, this is still a great record which I put it often in into my CD - player!

LASH OUT/ BURST. - split-7''

MUSIC: LYRICS:
MUSIC: LYRICS:
In front of me I'm holding a 7'' with two pretty unknown European bands. Lash Out are from Norway and they play some kind of metallic new school HC with rock n roll influences which it seems to be popular this days. The music is pretty cool actually, but their singer voice really disturb me. It reminds me on voice by Max Cavaliera. On the other side are Burst. which musically I like much more. Burst. are from Sweden and it seems that they have quite many stuff released out there. Strange that I didn't heard of them before?! Their music is somewhere between swedish style and Shai Hulud. Especially their singer voice sounds just like as the guy in Shai Hulud. Both bands have emotional lyrics, except that the Burst. one are written more in metal style, but I still prefer the Lash Out one.

ENGRAVE - ''s/t'' 7''

MUSIC: LYRICS:
This is not bad at all! When I bought this 7'' I had no idea how will this sounds like. Friend told me that this is some kind of German powerviolence so I decided to take a few copys for the distro. Hmm... I don't see any connection. The music is fast but definitely not powerviolence! It's actually metallic new school HC with screaming vocal. There are also slower parts with nice melodies that sometimes sounds like Serene! I can't remember any name, but all together really reminds me on Swedish new school bands. What I like the most on this 7'' are their great, long and very well written lyrics. They are written in emotional/metal way and they deal with personal and political problems. I like it!
