Region unit Maribor

Region unit Maribor of SFS covers an area with approximately 900 square kilometers of forests.Volume  increment  per year is about 6 cubic meter  of wood per 1 hectare of forest. Average growing stock  is about 250 cubic meters per 1 hectare forest.  Main  tree  species in this area are: spruce (Picea abies),  fir (Abies alba) pine (Pinus silvestris), beech   (Fagus  silvatica), oak (Quercus sp.) and chestnut (Castanea sativa).

Main ecological problems in  unit are.

  • decay of forest because of air and ground pollution
  • damages in forest and problems with renewal of forests because of ruined balance between forest and wild animals.
  • decay  of chestnut trees because of fungus's disease (Endothia parasitica).
  • bad health condition of spruce monocultures that can be easily damaged by wind, snow and insects
  • The part of state forests in unit is about 20%.Region unit has four sections. It has a section for development planing of forests and forest regions, section for growing and  protection of forests, section for work technology and forest roads and a section for development guiding of population of wild animals.

Their experts are supervising and advising all foresters working in local units.

Forests are essential part of our landscape and they are very important for everyone. Therefore we are present to protect them, preserve them and to care about them, not just for us, but also for the coming generations.
