Local unit Ruše

Local  unit of SFS in Ruše covers an area in which there is  140 square kilometers of forests. These forests are divided among 3000 owners.

 Local unit is also taking care of a large net of forest roads. In the unit there is about 250 km of such roads.

This large area  is divided  in 6 districts. Average area of a district is  25 square kilometers.

 A district forester is working in each forest district.District forester contacts with forest owners almost every day.

He  is spending a majority of his working time with marking the trees  that  must or can be cut. Trees are marked with  a special marking  hammer. In the same time  all marked trees are measured. We are measuring the trees in 1,3  m height and then calculating the volume of marked trees.

Trees are marked for felling because  of  damages caused by wind, snow, insects, diseases (fungi),  wild animals (deer, roes),  wood transport, etc. District forester  is also marking the trees with the cooperation of forest owner  according with owners' needs and  possibilities that are based on  present situation  of forest.

Trees must be marked in such manner that after felling the forest is able to provide all his functions in the same, or better, in greater  extent.

On  the  basis of data collected with tree marking  the district forester  gives  the forest owner the administrative decree  by which  the owner is obliged to cut down the  damaged trees (so called decree for sanitary felling). The owner can  also be allowed  to cut down the healthy marked trees (so called decree  about approval for felling marked trees).

 Each year we are marking  about 30.000  cubic meters of trees (that is a brut volume for approximately 50.000 trees).

Further the district forester is planning and inspecting work  on forest  roads and on taking care on young  phases of forests.

He  is also elaborating, with the help of local unit manager and so called growing-planer, detailed forest developing plans. This work is one of the most important tasks of SFS. In these plans there is a  description of present situation in forest. There are placed long-term goals for the forest. Contents of the plan are also short-term goals for diferent development stages of forest. Then there is also a description of suggested measures to reach  the placed aims. As an appendix of plan there is also a map of forest stands.
